                              本篤會的價值

                    Benedictine Values

                 1.  意識到天主的臨在(Awareness of God) : 

                                     我們承認天主的首要性.

                        (We acknowledge the primacy of God.)

                                       在每天的一般事物中尋找天主.

                       (To look for God in the ordinary events of each day.)

                                “我們相信天主是無所不在.” 會規十九1

                (“We believe that the divine presence is everywhere.” RB 19.1)

 2.        節制 (Moderation)

 我們承諾要學習簡樸及節儉

              (We are committed to practicing simplicity and frugality.)

               生活力求簡單,並在工作,祈禱及休閒中尋得平衡.

                      (To be content with living simply and finding

 balance in work, prayer and leisure.)

   “All things in moderation” RB 48.9

 3.        待客 (Hospitality)

     我們學習待客,並尊敬所有的人.

                              (We practice hospitality and respect all persons.)

                                   以溫和,接納及喜悅的態度迎接客人.

                  (To offer warmth, acceptance and joy in welcoming others.)

              “讓我們….要像接待基督一樣,接待他們,…” 會規五十三1

    “ Let all…be received as Christ….” RB53.1

       4.  工作的尊貴 (Dignity of Work)

                                      我們承諾定居在固定的會院.

                            (We are committed to the stability of place.)

                                  在天主的造化中欣賞工作的尊貴.

                  (To appreciate the dignity of work in God’s creation.)
                       “…靠雙手的操作而生活…” 會規四十八8
                  “…that they live by the labor of their hands.” RB48.8

                
                                   5.  團體生活 (Community Living)

                                       我們承諾在團體中建立穩固的關係.

(We are committed to forming stable relationship in the community.)

                     藉由彼此的關係,塑造今日的我們.

(To become who we are by our relationships with others.)

“願祂引領我們眾人,一起到達永生.” 會規七十二12

“…and may He bring us all together to everlasting life.” RB72.12

6.  傾聽 (Listening )

我們以恭敬的態度傾心靜聽.

                   (We listen reverently with the ear of our heart.)

以熱忱及感性的心傾聽人及萬物的聲音.

  (To hear keenly and sensitively the voices of persons and all created beings.)

7. 接受建議 (Taking Counsel )

                          為作決定,我們召集修會全體弟兄,收取建議.

              (We call the community together for counsel to make decisions.)

 為了建立基礎及分享使命感; 忠實於個人的許諾.
(To cultivate rootedness and a shared sense of mission; to
                    stand firm in one’s promises.)

“會院中每當有任何重要事務需要處理,會父便應該召
    集所有會士,向他們陳述將行之究.” 會規三1

“As often as anything important is to be done…the Abbot should
call the whole community together and explain what the business is.” RB3.1

8. 共有的美善 (Common Good)

                         我們溶入對共有的美善及對個人的尊敬的許諾.
        (We integrate a commitment to the common good and respect for the individual.)

發展出對共有的美善強烈的感覺

                        (To develop a rebust sense of the common good.)

                           “我們要建立一所侍奉上主的學校,在這裡,
              我們希望沒有什麼嚴苛或難以負擔的事.
              即使有某些嚴格的要求,也是按正理,為了矯正惡習,
              或保持仁愛所需要的.” 會規原序 45-47

                           “We intend to establish a school for the Lord service…
                            We hope to set down nothing burdensome.
                            The good of all concerned may prompt us to a little strictness in order to amend faults
                            and to safeguard love.” RB Pro. 45-47

9. 真實的生活 (Truthful Living)

                進德 – 我們培養一個能作日進於德,深度改變的環境.

  (We foster an environment of deep change – conversatio.)

                 練習在進德上培養改變的熱忱.
             (To practice enthusiasm for conversion.)

“如今是出於愛主之情,毫不費力便能做到,彷彿習慣成了自然….他的動機…出於愛基督,良好的習慣以及喜愛修德.” 會規七68-69

“Through this love, all…will now begin to be observed without effort, as though naturally, for habit, out of love for Christ, good habit and delight in virtue.”  RB 7. 68-69

10. 管理 (Stewardship)

                 我們對萬物表達尊敬.

               (We reverence all creation.)

對此處的所有物品表示愛護及欣賞.

(To appreciate and to care lovingly for all the goods of this place.)

“凡會院中的器皿和所有的東西,他都應該視其如祭台上的聖器一般.” 會規卅一10

“Regard all utensils as if they were the sacred vessels of the altar.” RB31.10

11. 對人的尊敬 (Respect for Persons)

                     我們尊敬所有的人.

                  (We reverence all persons.)

我們尊敬每一個人,不是由於其家世,背景或專業.

(To respect each person regardless of class, background or professional skill.)

“不要只求自己的利益,但也該求別人的利益.” 會規七十二7

“No one is to pursue what is judged best for oneself, but instead, what is better for someone else.” RB 72. 7

12. 正義 (Justice)

              我們承諾去推行正義.

       (We are committed to practicing justice.)

   在我們周遭的環境及大社會中推動公正的秩序.

(To work toward a just order in our immediate environment and in the lager society.)
